Ivanhoe Vets were at home for their 4th fixture of the season to Arnold
Southbank, who were last seasons league champions.
Both teams started brightly without really
troubling either goal. The ball was played around well by both sides in
the early stages of the game, and Ivanhoe had more of the attacking
advantage in the first half. As the game went on, Trevor Hebberd started
to control the midfield with his vision and passing. At half time, both
sides were at 0-0 and there was everything to play for.
Ivanhoe made two changes at half time,
Phil Killen came on for Dave Kenning and Tony Rush came on for Phil.
Arnold started the half well and the better of the play during the first
10 minutes, which resulted in their goal. A lack of concentration within
the Ivanhoe midfield and bad marking within the defence allowed an
Arnold forward plenty of time to put the ball past Mark Curtis in goal.
After Arnold's goal, Ivanhoe started to
push forward with purpose, and Trevor Hebberd was inspirational with his
passing. Ivanhoe were unlucky to have pulled a goal back. A superb shot
from outside the box by Trevor Hebberd hit the Arnold crossbar and Lee
Edwards was denied twice at close range by good goalkeeping. Ivanhoe
continued to press forward, which inevitably left spaces at the back,
but the Ivanhoe defence coped very well with everything Arnold had to
throw at it. Once again, the score did not do justice to the team effort
from Ivanhoe, but they can take heart from another improved performance.
