Ashby Ivanhoe Vets FC started their 2005/2006 season away to the White
Horse in Clifton, Nottingham. This was the first competitive match for
Ashby since their departure from Heather St Johns Football Club at the
end of the 2004/2005 season, and the first for the team under new
management and new identity of Ashby Ivanhoe Vets FC.
Both teams started brightly and exchanged
some neat football, but it was Ashby who made the first breakthrough
when Lee Edwards ran on to a defence splitting through ball to fire a
low shot which left the White Horse keeper with no chance of saving.
Ashby proceeded to dominate the game with ex-Derby County star, Trevor
Hebberd, combining well in midfield with the skilful left footed Mark Fawbes.
Goals followed from John Lennon, Nick Glynn, Darren Staples, Dave
Kenning, Phil Killen and a second from Lee Edwards. The White Horse
pulled a consolation goal back in the second half from a free kick just
outside Ashby's box, but the result was never in any doubt.
Despite the weather being extremely hot
on the day, and many tired legs, Ashby produced a first class team
effort for their opening game of the season. |
